Aside from the ever popular RV and tent camping campgrounds, you will find that many South Dakota campgrounds also offer glamping and other rental options. If you prefer sleeping closer to nature but aren’t traveling with an RV or a tent, search for Other Lodging Options. Many South Dakota campgrounds and RV parks offer cabins, yurts, lodges, covered wagons, tipis, safari tents, and other rental options. Glamping is alive and well in South Dakota!

Camp S Dakota is a product line that includes this website and the printed guide. They’re provided by the South Dakota Campground Owners Association (SDCOA) to assist camping enthusiasts in locating some of the finest of South Dakota’s campgrounds and RV parks. These are offered FREE to you, although we ask you to mention us when you register at a campground or use any of the resources mentioned here.

SDCOA is South Dakota’s professional association for campground owners and managers. Our members receive a robust benefits package which includes, among many things, marketing of their facilities. We are partnered with the National Association of RV Parks & Campgrounds (arvc). Our staff provides members with concierge service to assist with empowering members with their benefits.

A MESSAGE FROM THE GOVERNOR:

Greetings! Welcome to the state of Great Faces and Great Places! We’re thrilled that you have chosen South Dakota as your camping destination. There is nothing better than experiencing the great outdoors in South Dakota.  We have beautiful vistas, rolling prairies, refreshing lakes, evergreen forests, and granite peaks.

There’s plenty to do while you’re here — rock climbing, hiking, biking, fishing, hunting, sailing, or simply sightseeing. All we ask is one thing — that you have a great time while you’re at it.

South Dakota has more than 12,000 private and public campsites. We know there is a spot just right for you. Stay awhile, and get to know those who call our state home. Everyone is happy to make your stay in South Dakota one that you will remember for a lifetime.

At the end, grab your marshmallows and gather around the fire pit to tell stories of your great journey. Thanks for coming!

Dennis Daugaard
Governor
